What is the IBCC Equivalence Calculator (O & A Level)?

This IBCC equivalence calculator converts Cambridge (or Edexcel) O Level and A Level grades into the marks the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) uses on its equivalence certificate. Pakistani universities, medical colleges and engineering universities use those marks in place of Matric (SSC) and FSc (HSSC) marks, so you need this figure for the NUST, FAST, COMSATS, UET and MDCAT aggregates. Choose O Level for the SSC equivalence or A Level for the HSSC equivalence, enter your grades and the calculator shows the marks for each subject, the total and the equivalent marks out of 900 or 1,100.

IBCC gives each grade a fixed Pakistani mark: A = 85, B = 75, C = 65, D = 55 and E = 45. On the 9โ€“1 scale, 8 = 87, 7 = 82, 6 = 77, 5 = 70, 4 = 60, 3 = 50 and 2 = 40. F, G and grade 1 are not counted. An A* (or a 9) is worth more than 90 and is set subject by subject for each exam session. For O Levels in 2026 it is 94 in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Studies, Mathematics, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies and other electives, and 93 in English and Urdu. For A Levels in 2026 it is 95 in Physics, 94 in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and other subjects, and 93 in Computer Studies. The calculator uses the published tables for 2024, 2025 and 2026, and 90 for older sessions.

The SSC equivalence uses eight O Level subjects for Pakistani students who sit the exams in Pakistan: English, Urdu, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies, Mathematics and three electives. IBCC adds the marks and scales the total from 800 to 900, as in its own worked example (750 / 800 ร— 900 = 844). Foreign nationals and students who took the exams abroad use five subjects (English, Mathematics and three electives), scaled from 500 to 900. The HSSC equivalence adds three A Level subjects to the O Level subjects, so it is out of 1,100 for Pakistani students (8 + 3 subjects) and scaled from 800 to 1,100 for foreign and overseas students (5 + 3 subjects).

Worked example (2026 session, Pakistani student): English A (85), Urdu A* (93), Islamiyat A* (94), Pakistan Studies A (85), Mathematics A* (94), Physics A* (94), Chemistry A (85) and Biology B (75) add up to 705 out of 800. The SSC equivalent is 705 / 800 ร— 900 = 793 out of 900, or 88.1%. If the same student then gets A in Physics (85), B in Chemistry (75) and A* in Mathematics (94) at A Level, the HSSC equivalent is 959 out of 1,100, or 87.2%.

This is an estimate. IBCC's certificate is the official figure, and it can differ if your subjects, session or nationality category differ from what you enter. Students who are still awaiting A Level results usually apply to universities with their O Level equivalence; check each university's rule, for example NUST and UET use the O Level equivalence with the entry test for A Level students whose results are awaited.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. 1Choose O Level โ†’ Matric (SSC) or A Level โ†’ FSc (HSSC).
  2. 2Choose whether you are a Pakistani student who sat the exams in Pakistan, or a foreign national or overseas student.
  3. 3Choose your exam session so the right subject-wise A* marks are used.
  4. 4Pick your grade in each subject, and your electives (and A Level subjects for HSSC).
  5. 5Read your equivalent marks and percentage, then use them in the NUST, FAST, COMSATS, UET or MDCAT aggregate calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is A* equal to in IBCC equivalence?+
It depends on the subject and the session. For O Levels in 2026, A* is 94 in most subjects and 93 in English and Urdu. For A Levels in 2026 it is 95 in Physics, 94 in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, and 93 in Computer Studies. IBCC publishes these tables for each session.
How many marks is an A in O Level?+
85. A B is 75, C is 65, D is 55 and E is 45. Grades F and G are not accepted for IBCC equivalence.
How is O Level equivalence calculated?+
Add the IBCC marks for your eight subjects (English, Urdu, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies, Mathematics and three electives), divide by 800 and multiply by 900. For example, 705 marks give 705 / 800 ร— 900 = 793 out of 900 (88.1%). Foreign and overseas students use five subjects scaled from 500 to 900.
How is A Level equivalence calculated?+
IBCC adds three A Level subjects to your O Level subjects. Pakistani students' total is out of 1,100 (8 O Level + 3 A Level subjects). Foreign and overseas students' total of 5 + 3 subjects is scaled from 800 to 1,100.
What about IGCSE grades 9 to 1?+
IBCC converts 9 like an A* (above 90, subject-wise), 8 to 87, 7 to 82, 6 to 77, 5 to 70, 4 to 60, 3 to 50 and 2 to 40. Grade 1 isn't accepted.
Which percentage do NUST, FAST and COMSATS use for O Level students?+
They use the IBCC equivalence percentage in place of the Matric (and, if your A Level result is awaited, FSc) percentage in their aggregate formulas. Enter the percentage from this calculator into our aggregate calculators to see your merit.
