Tools for Freelancers & Small Businesses

Freelancing means being your own pricing, billing and finance department. These tools handle the numbers: what to charge, what you will actually receive after platform and withdrawal fees, and how to bill a client professionally.

They are built with Pakistani and Gulf freelancers working for clients abroad in mind, and work just as well for small businesses checking discounts and break-even points.

Setting a rate that covers your real costs

The most common pricing mistake is converting a salary you would like into an hourly rate by dividing by 40 hours a week. Freelancers do not bill every working hour: finding clients, admin, revisions and learning all take time. The Freelancer Rate Calculator starts from your income goal, adds taxes and costs, and divides by realistic billable hours to give your minimum hourly rate.

If a client offers a monthly retainer or a job offer quotes an annual salary, the Salary to Hourly Calculator converts between hourly, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and annual pay, including holidays and paid time off, so you can compare it with your freelance rate on equal terms.

Review your rate at least once a year. As your portfolio, reviews and repeat clients grow, raise prices for new clients first and move existing clients over with notice. A rate that was right when you started is usually too low two years later.

From quoted price to money in your account

On Upwork or Fiverr, the price you quote is not what you receive. Platform service fees come off first, then withdrawal fees, exchange rate spreads and tax. The Upwork & Fiverr Fee Calculator shows each deduction and your final amount in both USD and PKR, which is the figure to compare against local work.

On tax, Pakistani freelancers earning from foreign clients should read our guide to the 0.25% versus 1% rates on IT exports and how PSEB registration affects them.

For direct clients, the Invoice Generator creates a professional invoice and downloads it as a PDF in under a minute. Our invoicing guide covers what every invoice must include, numbering, Net 15 versus Net 30 terms, late fees and billing clients abroad. Clear invoices with agreed terms are the simplest way to get paid on time.

For small businesses

The Discount Calculator shows sale prices and the true effect of stacked discounts: 20% then 10% off is 28% off, not 30%. Its reverse mode finds the original price from a sale price. The Break-Even Calculator tells you how many units you must sell to cover fixed costs, which is the first number to know before opening a shop, launching a product or hiring.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I charge per hour as a freelancer?

Enough to hit your income goal after tax and costs from the hours you can actually bill, which is usually well under 40 a week. The Freelancer Rate Calculator works out your minimum rate from these inputs.

How much does Upwork or Fiverr take from my earnings?

Both charge a service fee on what you earn, and withdrawal and currency conversion costs come on top. The Upwork & Fiverr Fee Calculator shows every deduction and your take-home in USD and PKR.

What tax do freelancers pay in Pakistan?

Foreign IT export income is taxed at 0.25% with PSEB registration or 1% without, under section 154A. Our freelancer tax guide explains this with worked examples and how to file.

What should a freelance invoice include?

Your details and the client's, a unique invoice number, dates, a description of the work, amounts, payment terms and how to pay. The Invoice Generator includes all of these, and the invoicing guide explains each one.

Is 20% plus 10% discount the same as 30%?

No. The second discount applies to the already reduced price, so 20% then 10% is 28% in total. The Discount Calculator shows the true combined discount.

How do I convert a monthly salary to an hourly rate?

Multiply by 12 for the annual figure, then divide by the hours you actually work in a year after holidays and leave. The Salary to Hourly Calculator does this for any pay period.
