What is the Salary to Hourly Calculator?
The Salary to Hourly Calculator converts a pay rate from any period into every other period at once. Enter an annual salary, a monthly wage, a weekly paycheck or an hourly rate, and it instantly shows the equivalent hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly and annual figures in a single table. You can change the hours you work per week, the days per week and the weeks per year, add paid holidays and vacation days, and switch between US dollars, Pakistani rupees, UAE dirhams, Saudi riyals, pounds, euros and Indian rupees. All figures are gross pay — before income tax, social security, pension or other deductions.
The standard conversion assumes a 40-hour week worked 52 weeks a year, which is 2,080 paid hours. Hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). A $60,000 salary therefore works out to 60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 an hour, $230.77 a day, $1,153.85 a week, $2,307.69 every two weeks, $2,500 twice a month and $5,000 a month. Going the other way, $25 an hour is 25 × 2,080 = $52,000 a year, and a quick rule of thumb is to double the hourly rate and add three zeros to estimate the annual salary.
Your real hours matter more than the rule of thumb. On a 37.5-hour week — common in the UK — £15 an hour is 15 × 37.5 × 52 = £29,250 a year, and a £45,000 salary is about £23.08 an hour. In the Gulf, many jobs are 48 hours over six days: an AED 12,000 monthly salary is 144,000 a year ÷ 2,496 hours = about AED 57.69 an hour. In Pakistan, a PKR 150,000 monthly salary on a 40-hour week works out to roughly PKR 865 an hour. Change the hours and days fields to match your contract and the whole table updates.
Holidays and paid time off change what your time is really worth. A salaried employee is paid for holidays and vacation, so the annual salary stays the same — but you work fewer hours to earn it. With 10 public holidays and 15 vacation days, a $60,000 employee works 2,080 − 200 = 1,880 hours, so their pay per hour actually worked is 60,000 ÷ 1,880 = $31.91, not $28.85. If you are paid hourly and your days off are unpaid, the opposite happens: at $20 an hour, 10 unpaid days off cut annual pay from $41,600 to 20 × 2,000 = $40,000. Use the Paid / Unpaid switch to model either situation.
Bi-weekly and semi-monthly are not the same. Bi-weekly means every two weeks — 26 paychecks a year, with two months each year getting three paydays. Semi-monthly means twice a month, usually on the 15th and the last day — 24 paychecks a year, each slightly larger. On a $60,000 salary that is $2,307.69 versus $2,500 per paycheck. This calculator converts gross pay only; to see what lands in your bank account after tax, use the UK Take-Home Pay Calculator or the Pakistan Salary Tax Calculator, and if you are pricing freelance work, the Freelancer Rate Calculator adds overheads and unbilled time that a simple hourly conversion ignores.
