CGPA Calculator (GPA & Percentage)
Add your courses, credit hours and grades to get semester GPA and cumulative CGPA on the HEC 4.0 scale, plan a target CGPA, and convert CGPA to percentage.
Grade scale & formulas verified Oct 2026 ยท Source: HEC Policy Guidelines for Uniform Semester System (2019), ยง13โ15 ยท Your university's own scale takes priority.
- Your CGPA of 3.50 falls in HEC's A- band (3.34โ3.66), equal to 80% under HEC's minimum-of-band rule.
- BS degree minimum (2.00): met. MS/MPhil minimum (2.50): met.
- With 10 credit hours behind you, each future 3-credit A (4.00) moves your CGPA by about 0.116; later semesters move it less.
You need a semester GPA of at least 3.51 over 18 credit hours to reach a 3.50 CGPA.

Percentage โ CGPA converter
Conversion depends on who is asking. HEC's table (below) gives each CGPA the minimum percentage of its band. Some universities and employers use a straight-line formula instead; that is shown separately and is not an HEC rule.
| Grade | CGPA range | % (semester) | CGPA = % |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 3.67โ4.00 | 85+ | 85% |
| A- | 3.34โ3.66 | 80โ84 | 80% |
| B+ | 3.01โ3.33 | 75โ79 | 75% |
| B | 2.67โ3.00 | 71โ74 | 71% |
| B- | 2.34โ2.66 | 68โ70 | 68% |
| C+ | 2.01โ2.33 | 64โ67 | 64% |

- Averaging semester GPAs. CGPA is weighted by credit hours, so an 18-CH semester counts more than a 12-CH one.
- Forgetting 1-credit labs. They change your GPA too.
- Quoting CGPA รท 4 ร 100 as "HEC percentage". HEC's table gives the minimum of the band (3.00 = 71%, not 75%).
- Using HEC points when your university's transcript uses different ones; edit the scale to match.
- โCheck your transcript's legend for your university's exact grade points and edit the scale if they differ.
- โImproving an early F or D raises CGPA most when you still have fewer credit hours behind you.
- โScholarship forms often ask for CGPA and percentage; give the conversion the form specifies.

What is the CGPA Calculator (GPA & Percentage)?
The CGPA Calculator works out your semester GPA (SGPA) and cumulative GPA (CGPA) the way Pakistani universities do under the Higher Education Commission's uniform semester system. HEC's policy guidelines define GPA as the sum of credit hours ร grade points for the courses in a semester, divided by the semester's credit hours, and CGPA as the same sum over every course you have taken divided by all credit hours taken.
Grades are pre-filled with HEC's fractionalized grading system: A = 4.00 (85% and above), A- = 3.66 (80โ84), B+ = 3.33 (75โ79), B = 3.00 (71โ74), B- = 2.66 (68โ70), C+ = 2.33 (64โ67), C = 2.00 (61โ63), C- = 1.66 (58โ60), D+ = 1.30 (54โ57), D = 1.00 (50โ53) and F = 0 below 50%. Many universities follow this, but some use their own points (for example 3.7 instead of 3.66), so every grade point is editable.
Worked example: Semester 1 has Calculus 3 CH (A, 4.00), Programming 3 CH (B+, 3.33), English 3 CH (B, 3.00), Islamic Studies 2 CH (A-, 3.66) and a 1 CH lab (A, 4.00). Quality points are 12 + 9.99 + 9 + 7.32 + 4 = 42.31 over 12 credit hours, so the GPA is 3.53. If Semester 2 earns 42.30 quality points over 13 credit hours (GPA 3.25), the CGPA is 84.61 รท 25 = 3.38, not the simple average of the two GPAs.
Converting CGPA to percentage is where students get confused. HEC's guideline says a student with any CGPA is given the minimum percentage of the matching band, so a CGPA of 3.00 equals 71% and 3.38 (A- band, 3.34โ3.66) equals 80%. Other formulas you'll see online, such as CGPA รท 4 ร 100, are not an HEC rule; employers, scholarship bodies and foreign universities may each use their own. The converter shows both the HEC band value and an editable straight-line conversion so you can give whichever an application asks for.
Beyond the numbers, the calculator tells you what your result means: whether you are above HEC's minimum CGPA to graduate (2.00 for BS, 2.50 for MS/MPhil), which grade band you fall in, and what GPA you need next semester to hit a target CGPA. Your courses are saved in your own browser so you can add a new semester later.
How to Use This Calculator
- 1Check the grade-point scale (HEC's table is pre-filled); edit the points if your university uses different values.
- 2Enter each course's credit hours and pick the grade you got. Add semesters as needed.
- 3Optionally add your previous CGPA and credit hours instead of re-entering old semesters.
- 4Read each semester's GPA and your overall CGPA with the formula and grade band.
- 5Use the target planner to see the GPA you need next semester for a target CGPA.
- 6Convert CGPA to percentage (or percentage to CGPA) with HEC's table or an editable linear mapping.
